The 'Wilson Grip' is a drum grip that was created and taught by Richard Wilson, who I had the great fortune to study with in the late 1980's. I was on my way to developing chronic tendonitis when Richard was highly recommended to me to study with.
Though I studied with him for about 5 years, the pain in my left hand that was being caused by tendonitis was completely gone after six months of lessons with this brilliant teacher. I can not say enough or thank him enough for the lessons learned from him. I have been teaching drums for about 25 years and to the best of my ability I teach this grip to all of my students regardless of age or level. Check out the exercise videos on the free lesson page of this site to see how I use this grip.
After Richard passed away, several articles were written about him. Check out these links for more detailed information about Richard's approach to teaching the language of drums.
